There is no doubt we will see Manchester United
linked with a host of footballing talents over the coming weeks, but
with Chelsea and Manchester City already completing big transfers, the
Premier League champions will need to move quickly in order to land
their targets before someone else does.
What could David Moyes do, and who could he buy to improve the title-winning squad?
He will bring in a new style of play and also some new talents to add to his already world-class band of players.
Moyes could bring in his favoured formation of 4-2-3-1, making the challenge for the number one striker spot a tough one.
Ferguson always favoured a 4-4-2, and sometimes a 4-5-1, but a new
formation could mean some big players being left out of the squad.
Possible formation and starting XI:
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Goalkeeper: David de Gea
The Spanish goalkeeper will almost definitely start in goal for the
first game of the season for Manchester United. David de Gea proved many
doubters wrong last season, with some crucial saves and
man-of-the-match performances.
Right-back: Rafael da Silva
The Brazilian made this position his own last season, Rafael had some
great games for Manchester United and his potential makes him a real
candidate to be David Moyes’ first-choice right-back for the forthcoming
season.
Centre-back: Nemanja Vidic
Despite an injury-stricken season, Nemanja Vidic could well start the first game of the season.
Many believe he is not the defensive rock he used to be, but Vidic
would surely be on the manager’s mind as his first-choice central
defender.
Centre-back: Ezequiel Garay
Rumours have it, that the Benfica defender will be wearing the red of Manchester next season.
His performances throughout the season in Portugal have caught the
eye at Old Trafford and he could well feature in the first competitive
game of the season.
Left-back: Alexander Buttner
As Monaco step up their efforts to sign Patrice Evra and Everton not letting English left-back Leighton Baines go without a fight, this could well be the season where Alex Buttner steps into the first team.
The Dutch left-back showed his class when given his chance by
Ferguson last season. His attacking mentality combined with his pace,
positional awareness, and goalscoring ability could soon make him a
fans’ favourite at Old Trafford.
Centre-midfield: Shinji Kagawa
The Japanese midfielder proved he is worthy of a first-team place
with some great performances last season, including a hat-trick against
Norwich city in March.
Kagawa also played well in this year's Confederations Cup before exiting the competition with his country.
Centre-midfield: Michael Carrick
Many people claim Carrick did not deserve his spot in the Premier
League's team of the season, and they also claim is he overrated.
Carrick is one of the best players in the league at breaking down an
attacking move. He is not a flashy player, by any stretch of the
imagination, but his awesome passing ability and concentration levels
are outstanding.
Carrick may have another very important role to play in upcoming season.
Left-midfield: Wilfred Zaha
Wilfred Zaha was one of Ferguson's last ever signings. Zaha has the
potential to be a great Manchester United player for the future.
If David Moyes decides to keep him instead of letting him go back to
Crystal Palace on loan, the English youngster could set the Premier
League alight.
Centre-attacking-midfield: Thiago Alcantara
Alcantara's future looks to be at Manchester United, despite Barcelona trying to keep hold of their little gem.
Thiago's performances for Barcelona impressed many clubs in Europe
last season, but his preferred club of choice looks to be the Premier
League champions.
His hat-trick in the final of the U21 championship leads many to believe he could be a Manchester United great.
Right-midfield: Antonio Valencia
Antonia Valenica didn't have the best of seasons in 2012/13, but he has the class, and ability to bounce back.
Valencia looked to be struggling to find his form after he suffered a
leg injury, but his work rate and composure on the ball is surely
something Moyes will look for in the midfield of his new squad.
Striker: Robin van Persie
David Moyes will be looking for Robin van Persie to reproduce the
same form for the new season, which he showed last season, when finished
the league as the top scorer.
The Dutch striker could find himself fighting for his position with
four or five other strikers, therefore leaving Moyes with an amazing
choice of attacking options as they challenge for the title once again.
